Teresa Monteiro

Security is the bedrock of effective advocacy. To ensure our community thrives long-term, we must look beyond immediate access and address the structural financial security of individuals with disabilities and their families.
Today, I am spotlighting a vital resource for Winston-Salem and the Triad: Teresa Monteiro.

Teresa operates an independent financial planning practice affiliated with Northwestern Mutual. Her work is not merely about insurance; it is about orchestrating a "birth-to-death" roadmap that ensures no one is left behind when care structures change.

Why Teresa is a Critical Partner for the Triad

For organizations, nonprofits, and families navigating the complexities of disability, Teresa provides the technical finesse required to protect assets and ensure continuity of care. Her expertise is particularly high-leverage for:

  • Families & Caregivers: Navigating the transition of responsibility to siblings or external structures.
  • Service Organizations: Seeking a vetted referral partner for clients who need more than just immediate tactical support.
  • Individuals: Looking for a benefits analysis that accounts for the nuances of SSI, SSDI, and Medicare.

Specialized Capabilities

Teresa’s practice focuses on the specific legal and financial vectors that impact our community:

  • Special Needs Trusts & ABLE Accounts: Protecting eligibility for government benefits while building wealth.
  • Transition Planning: Creating durable plans for when parents or primary caregivers can no longer provide support.
  • Life & Long-Term Care Insurance: Evaluating options even when health flags or age present traditional barriers.
  • Benefits Analysis: Deciphering how parental Social Security changes impact an individual’s entitlements.

In a landscape often defined by "minimum requirements," Teresa’s approach focuses on going above and beyond to ensure peace of mind. She is a partner who understands that for the 1 in 4 of us with a disability, financial planning is not a luxury—it is a necessity for independence.
