National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month

Alzheimer’s Disease Is NOT a Normal Part of Aging. Let's Talk About It!

November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, and the Winston-Salem Mayor’s Council for Persons with Disabilities invites YOU to join us for an important and educational community meeting!

Did you know that while Alzheimer's disease and dementia are closely related, they are NOT the same thing?

Dementia describes a group of symptoms affecting memory, thinking, and daily functioning, while Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia. Most importantly, Alzheimer's disease is NOT a normal part of aging!

We're excited to welcome Dona Hedgecock, Community Educator with the Alzheimer's Association, as our guest speaker! She'll help us better understand this disease, its impact on individuals and families, and why education, awareness, and community support matter.

Date: November meeting date, 2026
Time: 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM EST

Location: Solutions for Independence (University Plaza Shopping Center) - 7744 North Point Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27106

Everyone is welcome! Whether you're personally affected, caring for a loved one, or simply interested in learning more, we encourage you to attend!

Recreation and Active Living Expo

Greetings,

My name is Lillian Blaisdell, and I’m reaching out on behalf of Solutions for Independence, the Center for Independent Living in Winston-Salem. We’re hosting our 2027 Adaptive Recreation and Active Living Expo on Saturday, April 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and we’d love to have your organization join us as a vendor.

The Expo brings together people with disabilities, families, caregivers, local organizations, and community partners for a day of recreation, wellness, resources, and connection. A booth is a great way to share what your organization offers and meet people in the community.

To reserve a vendor space:

  1. Complete the Vendor Registration Form.

  2. Send a copy of your organization’s logo for our promotional materials to the following email  lily@sicilnc.org.

  3. Pay the $20 vendor fee to Solutions for Independence through Venmo or Cash App. We’ll email you to confirm your space once payment is received.

Vendor fees will help us purchase door prizes for attendees this year. You’re also welcome to donate an additional prize, gift card, or item for the giveaway.

We’re gathering early registrations now and would be excited to have you participate. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Thank you!
